Last night Will met me out in Durham for the Georges Rousse exhibit(s) . If you’re not familiar, this article gives the low down. Tuesday was the closing reception/showing for the installations in 4 different locations of old tobacco warehouses & offices. Just before 7pm (after meeting at 6:30 for a beer at the Federal), Will and I were on our way to one location, when Paul called to let us know there was a line of about 100 people, and urged us to go on to the more impressive exhibits. So we stopped at the Chesterfield building on the Liggett Meyers campus. I used to live right down here, and would walk my dog past this building every day. We went inside and there was a HUGE line down a long hallway. We thought about bolting, but decided since there was only an hour left (the reception was 5-8) we should stick where we were. After waiting on line for about 45 minutes, we finally saw the big blue square shape painted in this stairwell. It was pretty cool. Only one person at a time could view from the magic spot indicated by tape on the floor. Will took a great picture of it. After, we got back on line and took about another 15 mins to view the installation in the old cafeteria. There was an old piece of equipment incorporated into this one, but didn’t have the same floating effect as the previous. Paul called and offered to chauffer us to the next site, so we ran out and hopped into his car. We tried to get to the Bargain Furniture bldg, but they’d locked the doors and were kicking folks out. Luckily, we did make it to the Baldwin Building where the main reception was being held, and got to check out the 4-color square. All in all it was pretty cool. Too bad we didn’t get to see more! Check out his other works on the website. Some are truly amazing. BTW – Have you been to Durham lately?? Technically I work in Durham, but I’m really in RTP, which is on the fringe. I go into town less and less, which is sad because Durham has always been special to me.
I was actually in Duram on Monday, we had to return the china we rented for the wedding. Brian’s sister lives there too, she works at Duke Hospital. It’s not a bad area, I wouldn’t mind living there or Raleigh someday.
The stairwell picture is really good. It was great seeing you guys, sorry we could get to more of the installations.
Here’s my picture from Bargin Furniture on Saturday morning.

[...] I highly reccomend taking a look through Google Image search to see more of his work as nobody seems to have collected it nicely anywhere. Blue box photos above from an exhibit in Durham found here. Red Checker photo found here. [...]
